Successful “Early Phonics Skills” Workshop
On the 5th of November, the BSB’s Read Write Inc. coordinator Rhian Dunn led the first parent workshop of this year’s BSB Family Club.
The “Early Phonics Skills, Sounds and Words in English” workshop was aimed at parents with children aged from 4 to 7 years old. The main purpose was to introduce them to Read Write Inc., the programme we use in school to support children in learning to read, write and spell in English.
Over 25 parents joined us on this fun and educational session, where Ms Dunn helped them to understand how their children learn to read, write and spell through a number of practical activities. She also provided them with hand-outs and other useful documentation including links to websites, to practice with their children back at home.
The development of early phonics skills is one of the most sought after subjects among families, as it is one of the key areas in early years and primary education. The Read Write Inc system we follow is a whole-school literacy programme designed to create fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers.
