Our Year 6 pupils travel back in time at the Maritime Museum

As part of this term’s topic “Changes in the Past Century“, on Monday 17th November our students in Year 6 had a chance to explore in depth the changes developed in sea transport and how technology has developed over the last 100 years.

This Year group planned a combined visit to the Barcelona Maritime Museum in the Drassanes Reials and a Grimaldi Ferry docked in Barcelona port.

The trip was a great success allowing the children to further their classroom learning in topic, science and art. On the Grimaldi Ferry they learned about how difficult and important a job it is to operate a passenger ferry looking inside places where passengers don’t usually get a chance to see, such as the Captain’s quarters and the bridge. Then, on to the Maritime Museum, they could listen and watch a presentation on Charles Darwin and his work on classification of animals.

In addition, to follow up on their in-class work on fashion from the past 100 years, graffiti and the Pop Art movement, our children were introduced to the works of several graffiti artists where they had the chance to replicate designs that are shown now on classroom displays.

It was indeed a very busy and fun day with lots of learning!
