The Global Fund for Children Meet our Students
Earlier this week BSB welcomed representatives from Cognita and The Global Fund for Children (GFC), the international not-for-profit organisation which works to improve the dignity and educational opportunities of vulnerable children worldwide.
The visit by Margaret Kubicek, Cognita Group Communications Manager, and Danielle Bidos, GFC Development Officer, was an excellent opportunity for our students to learn more about GFC’s work around the world and how the money our school will contribute to raise in upcoming events will be put to good use. Sessions were held throughout the day and included examples of GFC projects, in particular those in Nepal that were affected by the major earthquakes there earlier this year. Over 250 students, both from Primary and Secondary, including the two School Magazine Clubs and the two School Fundraising Societies, could benefit from participating in such interactive talks.
Our school’s support for GFC is part of the groupwide partnership between Cognita schools and GFC. BSB and other Cognita schools have a strong tradition of charitable fundraising, and the partnership with GFC does not replace this important work. Rather it provides a common cause for all Cognita schools and offices to support in the belief that together, we can achieve more.
The partnership also provides opportunities, such as the visit this week, for our students to learn more about the issues and challenges affecting many children in other parts of the world.
Thank you so much for hosting us at British School of Barcelona on Tuesday. It was wonderful to speak to such an interactive group of children and young people and I hope the engagement from yesterday with the pupils, parents and teachers can help galvanise the school community to support your fundraising and enrichment efforts.
I must make a call out to the wonderful leader of the Senior Student Fundraising Society, who I am in no doubt will be an amazing advocate for our work and your other philanthropic activities. Her motivation and passion for all causes was admirable to say the least!
Thank you for looking after us so well and leading me on my tour from one classroom to the next. I loved the diversity in the schedule and we will definitely use it to make suggestions to other schools going forward when they are looking to plan a visit.
Danielle Bidos, GFC Development Officer
Many thanks for the fantastic visit to BSB yesterday. We were really impressed with the range of sessions and groups we met with so thank you for putting so much thought into planning our schedule; everyone seemed to get a lot out of it.
Margaret Kubicek, Cognita Group Communications Manager
