Cognita partnership raises over US $90,000 for The Global Fund for Children in first year
We are proud to announce that as a result of our partnership with The Global Fund for Children (GFC) the Cognita community has raised an amazing US $90,000 in its first year.
Cognita launched the partnership in our Europe and Latin America regions in Autumn 2014. Since then many of our schools and regional office staff have engaged with GFC’s work through visits to and by GFC projects around the world. This included an inspirational presentation by Thulani Madondo, founder of Kliptown Youth Program in South Africa, at Cognita’s Europe Leadership Conference and some of our UK schools in October.

Cognita rallies for Nepal
Following two catastrophic earthquakes in Nepal last Spring, the Cognita community agreed to channel all funds raised for GFC between May-July 2015 into GFC’s emergency relief effort for Nepal.
From family barbecues and scavenger hunts to cake sales and coffee mornings, schools throughout the Cognita Group pulled together to support Nepal, bringing in over £25,000. Of this, £3,000 went towards immediate emergency grants following the earthquakes, with the remainder going to GFC’s long term relief effort in Nepal.

We want to give special thanks to Cognita Schools for the incredible generosity in relation to this appeal. We are so grateful for the support of Cognita schools during this difficult time. As a result of the quakes, some of our grassroots partners’ offices suffered structural damage; some of the child beneficiaries of their programmes lost one or both parents or other family members; many of their beneficiaries lost their homes or had to sleep outside because of structural instability or fear.

GFC Talks in Spain
The GFC partnership went on the road to Cognita’s four schools in Spain in October. Danielle Bidos, GFC Development Officer, and Margaret Kubicek, Cognita’s Group Communications Manager, met with students, staff and parents to bring the work of GFC and aims of the partnership alive. The sessions included examples of GFC projects, in particular those in Nepal, and how money raised is being put to good use.
THANK YOU to all colleagues, students and parents who have contributed to our successful Year One and set the bar high for 2015/16. This year will see all Cognita regions participating in our partnership for education and we’ve set a fundraising target of £US $180,000 – double the amount raised last year.
