Delightful Taster Session to Get to Know the BSB Early Years

On the 1st of February, the Early Years department in BSB Castelldefels organised a new Arts & Crafts Taster Session for prospective families with 2 to 4 year-old children.

The Taster Session lasted an hour during which Ms Martin, Early Years Leader, and Mrs Kinnen, Reception Teacher, held a variety of arts and crafts activities to engage children in learning about using paint and creating pictures using different textures and tools. Furthermore, they made plasticine models with a purpose in mind, thus developing fine motor skills through squeezing, rolling and pinching. There were also opportunities to explore the outdoor environment and develop gross motor skills.

Ms Martin explained: “The main aim was to invite potential parents to view the environment and see for themselves the opportunities of active learning through play in the school. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and many parents commented that they too enjoyed the opportunity of participating with the children in the activities and finding out more about Early Years at the BSB.”

Mrs Martínez, BSB Admissions Officer, said “Last year we started organising these sessions to enable new families to come and have a taste of what a school day is like in Early Years in BSB. These sessions have turned out to be very successful, because it is a unique opportunity for children and parents to interact with our pupils and teachers before they make the important decision of enrolling their children at BSB.” She added “This activity is very useful because children can come and play alongside other pupils, enjoy different activities and become excited about starting school. Parents are able to see their child interacting with teachers and other children in English in the Early Years Department. They are also able to speak to teachers about any questions or queries they may have.”

Mrs Kinnen also said “Parents were able to ask questions while the children enjoyed and engaged enthusiastically in the activities prepared for them, supported by both staff and parents. They also explored our classes and outdoor area finding a multitude of exciting resources and additional activities.”
