Owing to a school not attending the tournament, Year 4 and 5 for both Belair and BSB Sitges were divided into A and B sides. This ensured that the children got to participate in a total of three matches with both of our A and B sides winning their games against the Belair teams by healthy margins.
Year 2 and 3 had the opportunity to participate in a four-team tournament against other schools. The enthusiasm and skills they displayed was of a high-level throughout their fixtures and this meant they were able to compete to a high standard despite not playing handball since October! From what we could make out from the scoring they ran out as winners in all the games that they played too. An amazing achievement!
Despite the Year 6 boys having to wait for their opponents to arrive for a considerable amount of time, this did not deter them from putting in a truly outstanding performance against Escola Esteva Barrachina. The team participated in a game that consisted of four twelve-minute quarters. With fluent attacking play and a high-level of finishing the children ran out winners in all of the quarters played. The Year 6 BSB Sitges team ran out 43-16 winners.
Mr McLachlan, EYFS & Primary PE Specialist at BSB Sitges, said, “What impressed me more than anything was the sportsmanship shown and their level of respect for one another; this for me, as their coach, was exceptional! They all improved their handball skill set considerably over the course of the match and it was a pleasure to see. Parents also commented on how they could see a considerable improvement in the performances of the children and the teamwork shown from their first tournament in October.”
And he added: “Again, the handball meeting proved to be a very fruitful experience for our pupils. We have a great level of enthusiasm for handball at the BSB and as such we are looking into the possibility of delivering a Handball club from Years 2 to Year 6 on a Saturday morning.”
