The ceremony was organised to celebrate the first stage of the recent collaboration between BSB students and Malayaka House Orphanage in Entebbe, Uganda. Our students have invested a lot of time and effort in this cause since October 2017, when they first learnt about Malayaka House. Clearly, the story of the 40 orphans had a huge impact on them and yielded an immediate response. Since then, students have organised many fundraising activities, such as bake sales, Secret Santa, and a non-uniform day, and contributed to the Primary Festive Fairs held for Christmas with dedicated stands at both sites.
Supported by Mrs Kovak, IB Coordinator at BSB, “the students of the Secondary Student Council and the CAS Committee have demonstrated strong commitment and perseverance during this journey which has resulted in this unpretentious, rewarding ceremony – a clear demonstration of how caring our students are.”
During the ceremony, Bea Gutierrez, Malayaka House representative, was presented with the funds raised so far and the students reflected on the learning opportunities gained from this project. They also introduced their plans for future fundraising: We are all anxious about the FIFA Competition coming next aimed towards Malayaka House! Congratulations to all students on their effort and may the 2nd stage of fundraising begin!
