The BSB Organises the Fourth Unofficial Kids Lit Quiz between BISA Schools

Next Thursday, 8th March, the BSB will host the fourth Kids Lit Quiz, with the participation of 52 secondary school students from seven international schools in Barcelona.

The Kids Lit Quiz is an annual event that encourages reading for pleasure and a love for books amongst young people. The students have to answer several rounds of questions based on a selection of children´s and young adult works of fiction, which they have prepared for by reading widely from shared booklists, across the seven schools. This activity greatly enriches students’ literary knowledge and comprehension skills, as well as giving them the opportunity to meet up regularly to discuss books and build a rapport as a team, across different year groups.

Seven international schools that form part of BISA, the Barcelona International Schools Association, will participate: American School of Barcelona, Benjamin Franklin International School, Oak House School, St. Paul’s School, ES International, Kensington School Barcelona, and The British School of Barcelona. Most of the schools have entered up to eight finalists, competing in teams of four, between 11 and 14 years old, all passionate about reading and ready to give their best for the competition.

This year, the event is being organised by the BSB at the Castelldefels campus. The participants will have the opportunity to meet other students who share their interests and enjoy informal discussions about books and literature.

The contest is sponsored by English bookshops, ComeIn and BookBox International, who have donated prizes for the three top ranking teams. The winning team of the competition will also win a trophy.

In the words of the Director of Learning for English and Languages at the BSB Castelldefels, Ms. Kate Kelly, “The Lit Quiz is such an enjoyable event and we are delighted to be hosting this year. Many students who have competed in past years have come together to prepare for the day, including past winner – Alex, who is hosting this year, in his role as Willy Wonka. It promises to be an unforgettable event. It is lovely seeing likeminded bookworms come together and celebrate their love of literature and, of course, the quiz itself is fiercely competitive yet great fun”.

The Kids Lit Quiz forms part of a series of events that the BISA schools organise together throughout the year to encourage friendships between students and teachers from different schools. These include sports tournaments, music festivals, and talent shows, amongst others.
