BSB Handball Benjamin Win Fair Play Trophy

After the well-deserved summer break, the BSB Sitges Handball Teams have retaken their regular training to get ready for a promising season of local tournaments. By now it is a fine group of students in all three age categories (Pre-Benjamin, Benjamin and Alevin) who play handball in school. Coached by Mr McLachlan (PE and Sport Specialist), they learn to follow the basic rules of this fascinating sport: having a great time, enjoying the team spirit, and observing fair play.

After a few weeks of off-season training, last Sunday saw no less than 27 pupils enter the first Handball Tournament in Sant Pere de Ribes. Mr McLachlan reports back after the competition:

“I was delighted to see so many of our new children participate in the competition for all three teams. Our Pre-Benjamin side worked well co-operatively and scored a number of goals against their opponents by exhibiting fantastic teamwork. We have several fearless goalkeepers in the side and they made some extraordinary saves to keep our opponents at bay. I know they will go from strength to strength as they grow in competition experience.

Several former BSB Sitges students, whom are now at the Castelldefels campus, returned to the event to compete for our Alevin side. We had an amazing turnout from the children, so much so that we were able to field a different side in each half of our games. Our first fixture proved a difficult one, with many of the children having to adjust to their roles in the team. I am pleased to say that with each game that passed the performances of every player improved considerably and the children responded well to the defensive instructions given.

We had two teams participate in the Benjamin tournament and they both performed admirably. They were competitive but respectful in all their games and were rewarded for their efforts by winning the Fair Play Trophy for their age category.

Many of the children have clearly found a new passion for handball as a sport and I welcome parents to attend the forthcoming inter-house competitions to see the children showcase their skills. I am are all extremely proud of all of the children that took part in the competition and look forward to seeing them continue their handball development in future tournaments.”
