Cognita Schools share a story around the world for World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day 2018, the ‘Share a Story Around the World’ project was organised by Fiona Ritson, Head of English, alongside students and staff from Colchester High School in the UK.

Over the last year 17 Cognita schools collaborated to create ‘Sameera and Javier’s Cog-tastic Adventure’. A group of Fiona’s students wrote the opening of a story and then sent the work-in-progress around different Cognita schools for groups of students to add to. The narrative developed one school at a time, with students also providing the illustrations and even the blurb on the back of the book.

The British School of Barcelona was one of the 17 schools participating in this exciting project. We have received a copy of the book and our students are just thrilled! See below the two chapters by our Primary and Secondary students of both BSB Sitges and Castelldefels. Amazing pieces of Literature. Well-done!

Students from our sister school in the Levante area, El Limonar International School, also contributed to the story with some fantastic chapters.

As the Cognita network keeps strengthening bonds across schools, countries and even continents, a collaborative project like this has the potential to be even bigger and better. A brainstorming of ideas include: – older students doing editing or providing translations so the book is available in multiple languages – using more illustrations throughout the story – involving an established children’s author to review the book or otherwise take part – selling the books to benefit an agreed charity.

All in all, a lovely and very edifying initiative. We are looking forward to the next one!
