May is the perfect time of the year to practise sports outdoors and a fantastic opportunity to embed a culture of physical activity for overall wellbeing across our young people at The British School of Barcelona.
Last week we were delighted to be able to run our annual Sports Days for students in Secondary (Years 7 to 10). Socially distanced and with all the safety protocols in place, we were able to host parents to attend on the four separate days for each year group. They were fantastic in the support of their children and the event.
The days were planned by Jo Clayden, PE Teacher in BSB Castelldefels Secondary, where the pupils rotated on an adapted 6-station activity carousel of high jump, standing long jump, netball target shots, seated basketball throws, football penalty shots and the 6 can demolish challenge! All pupils (and staff) loved these activities and had huge amounts of fun in the process.
This was followed by our track events, where pupils competed in 100m, 800m and 4x200m relays. The tension track side was amazing, and the effort put in by all was truly superb with some very fast times!
Ms Lashbrook, PE teacher who was ever present in ensuring each of the 4 days ran like clockwork, said “The sports days and events that we organise at BSB this year are simply for all of our BSB pupils to have fun, develop their physical and social wellbeing and participate in an inclusive sports day. It’s clear to all they all had fun, and by the looks of the faces, they put in all the effort they could! Each day was great, and we already hope that more will take part in our daily sports events now, and next year.”
A big thank you also to the helpers from Y10 and Y12, and the BSB staff that came to support the groups, to make the days so special.
