The British School of Barcelona has been rated as an “Outstanding School in every Category”. This is the highest recognition that an international educational centre can receive and is the conclusion reached following the recent British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspection.
The inspection report released by Penta International, an independent inspectorate body accredited by the English Department for Education (DfE), grades The British School of Barcelona as one of the best British schools in the world. The report highlights the quality of education provided, the strong sense of community among staff, students and families, and the global educational standards of the school.
This achievement places BSB as the only school in Catalunya to have gained this prestigious accreditation. Only four other schools in mainland Spain are currently recognised as outstanding by BSO. Learn more
A highly personalised student-centred education
The report highlights that BSB delivers an excellent, broad, balanced and highly personalised curriculum, in inspiring facilities that encourage independent and creative learning. This allows students across all year groups to make consistently very good progress, develop their skills with confidence, and achieve well above UK national averages. The report also indicates that students throughout the school display high levels of English.
The BSO accreditation also recognises the exemplary behaviour of our students in a learning environment where they feel happy and safe. Students say they are very proud of their school. Inspectors reported that BSB is a school that places the student at the centre of everything they do and highlights that wellbeing of the students is a clear focus of the school. Care and guidance of students at all levels is exemplary, with relationships between students and teachers being excellent.
The report also points out that BSB is an inclusive school that actively promotes values such as mutual respect and tolerance, from Nursery to Pre-University, helping students develop global perspectives. There is a strong, positive feeling of Community as shown in the regular parent activities that allow families to engage with the school and be involved in their child’s learning.
As a result of the quality education provided and the outstanding academic achievements, each year nearly all students progress onto higher education; 95% are successful in gaining places in their first choice university. This is the result of excellent university admission guidance allowing them to attend the best universities in Spain and around the world.
A clear vision and the commitment to continuous improvement, the keys to excellence
With over 60 years providing a top-class British International Education, BSB has developed exceptionally in recent years, both in terms of education and expansion of its facilities. Penta’s report states that the significant progress BSB has made in school improvement over the last few years is the result of a clearly established vision, which informs the strategic direction of the school, under outstanding leadership and management.
According to Jon Locke, Executive Principal of BSB, “This report is a fantastic affirmation that the hard work and dedication shown by our whole team at BSB is really providing a first-class education for our students. The commitment and support shown by our leadership team, all staff, students and parents are clearly making BSB a very special place”. He added “There are so many positive aspects identified in this report, but I am particularly delighted with the way our students have been highlighted. Their conduct, attitudes to learning and personal growth has been recognized. They are remarkable young people and we are incredibly proud of every single one of them!”
