Meet our Senior Leadership Team

James Petrie – Acting Executive Principal

James was appointed Deputy Head of BSB Secondary in 2015 and Headteacher of Secondary and Pre-University in 2018. Since 2023, he has acted as Acting Executive Principal.

He has taught and led in UK state and Independent schools as well as working in the international sector.

James has a degree in English and Related Literature from the University of York and a PGCE from Cambridge University.

James’ interests include History, Literature, Art and Sport.

Dominik Anke – Senior Business Manager

Dominik was appointed Business Manager for BSB in 2018, where he oversees the areas of Finance, HR, Facilities & Operations, Admissions, and IT for all campuses.

Joining one of the largest and most prestigious international schools in Barcelona was a heart decision after his career in finance, consulting, and management: Dominik’s father was a Headteacher and his mother a Primary teacher.

Dominik has a law degree and an MBA from the IESE Business School. In his spare time, he enjoys long walks in nature, travelling, and skiing.

Judy Dean – Headteacher, Early Years and Primary, BSB Castelldefels

Judy has been working at the British School of Barcelona since September 2007; she has worked in all Primary year groups from Reception to Year 6 and is now currently the Head Teacher of Primary and Early Years. Judy completed her MEd in Educational Leadership in 2016; her dissertation was focused on the leadership of change in schools.

Judy believes passionately in education of the whole child encompassing academic excellence, child-centred learning, and the development of the whole person. Judy has had an interesting and varied career: from teaching in Brighton, leading a national programme of training and resource development for P.E., to teaching in an International School in Belgium.

Judy moved to Spain in 2007 to follow her love of climbing. She spends her weekends discovering places to climb and has a real love of the outdoors. Judy also swims regularly and enjoys mountain biking.

Mark Woodward – Acting Headteacher, Secondary & Pre-University, BSB Castelldefels & BSB Nexus

Mark joined BSB in 2008, following twelve years teaching experience in the UK. He quickly combined his love of Maths with roles in data analysis and timetabling within Secondary before moving into the Senior Leadership Team.

A keen sportsman, he spends his free time cycling, running, skiing, or watching any sport either live or on TV.

Katherine Monaghan – Headteacher, Early Years and Primary, BSB City

Katherine joined BSB as Deputy Headteacher in 2016, co-leading the inaugural BSB Sitges team.

In 2021, she was appointed Founding Headteacher of the new EYFS and Primary BSB City Campus.

Katherine has an MA (Cantab.) in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge, where she also earned her PGCE. As a post-graduate, she specialised in early childhood research and holds an MA in International Childhoods from the University of Sheffield.

Katherine’s passions include her family, the performing arts, and travel.

Jake Richardson – Headteacher, Secondary & Pre-University, BSB City

Jake has been a part of BSB since 2015. In 2017, he assumed the role of Director of Nexus, where he successfully launched and led the BSB Nexus Pre-University Programme. In 2023, he was appointed as the Headteacher, Secondary and Pre-University, at the new BSB City campus.

With a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Newcastle (Australia), a Masters in Educational Psychology from the University of Barcelona (Spain), and a PGCE from the University of Nottingham (England), Jake possesses a strong academic foundation. His interests lie in holistic education, teaching strategies, and the psychology of decision making.
