The Key Stage 1 (KS1) sets standards for the learning and development of children from 5 to 7 years old

Key Stage 1 Curriculum

Primary education takes place at both The British School of Barcelona campuses Castelldefells and Sitges.

The National Curriculum sets out the learning and expectations for Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2). Students in Key Stage 1 enter the first stage of Primary school.

KS1 tasks and tests cover:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Speaking and listening
  • Maths
  • Science

English, Maths and Science are considered core subjects in Primary education, and as such they take up a substantial part of the children’s learning week.

Other subjects of the National Curriculum include: Computing, History, Geography, Art, Music and Physical Education.

In addition to this, the pupil’s of The British School in Year 1 have two lessons of Spanish each week and they start Catalan lessons in Year 2.

All subjects are taught through a thematic and creative approach. At The British School of Barcelona we believe that learning should be meaningful and we give children the opportunity to learn in a way that is familiar and relevant to their every-day lives.
