Key Stage 3 Curriculum

Secondary education takes place at both our Castelldefels and Sitges campuses in 2016-2017. In September 2017 all Secondary education will be at the Castelldefels campus and in the new International Pre-University Centre of The British School of Barcelona.

The National Curriculum sets out the learning and expectations for Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9).

Key Stage 3 fits the first stage of Secondary school. In these three years students have specialist teachers in each subject area and a form teacher who provides tutorial support and guidance, and who is responsible for monitoring their overall progress and well-being.

The emphasis of The British School Key Stage 3 curriculum is to ensure pupils experience a wide and challenging range of subjects as well as gaining proficiency and skills in English and at least two other languages. We deliver an extensive enrichment programme as part of our curriculum, covering areas such as public speaking and food technology. At this stage in a young person’s development we deliver an extensive developmental course of personal, social and health education, covering all the key issues of adolescence.

The British School of Barcelona KS3 compulsory national curriculum subjects are:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • History/Sociales
  • Geography
  • Modern Foreign Languages
  • Information Technology
  • Art and Design
  • Music

The British School follow the relevant sections of the English National Curriculum. In addition, we meet the requirements of the Spanish Curriculum so that students at ages 16 and 18 can gain both British and Spanish qualifications.
