Spring Term

Maths Parents Workshop


Description: A common question asked by parents is how can we help with maths at home when the methods are so different from when we were at school? This workshop will help to explain how we teach maths in our school, why it has changed, what we mean by mastery in mathematics and examples of different strategies that you can use to help your child at home. Workshop: Dyslexia is a SuperPower


Description: We are having a celebration, and raising awareness of, how dyslexic learners learn and the highlighting the positives of being a learner with a specific learning difficulty in reading and/or writing. In this session we will look at dyslexia as a gift and what it means to be dyslexic, famous and successful people who had/have dyslexia. The purpose of this workshop would be to empower the children and to share their experiences of being a learner with dyslexia and send a powerful message to both parents and children. Reading with your Child


Description: Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2 parents: One of the most important things that we can teach our children is how to read and enjoy reading. But what strategies should you use when reading with your child? How do we foster a love of books in our children? Early Phonics Workshops


Description: The Early Years team is delivering two workshops for Early Years parents focusing on specific aspects for each year group. There will be a separate session for Nursery, with a focus on the importance of sound distinction, instrument play, rhythm, rhyme and storytelling in early phonic development. The session in Reception will be dedicated to Read Write Inc, with a focus on how parents can help their children at home. Delivered by: Mr Steve Rochester (Nursery Teacher) Workshop Details:

Autumn Term

Outdoor Learning Workshop


Description: A practical outdoor session for those parents who would like to join us on forest school sessions to give information about the way parents can help in the outdoor classroom. Please come dressed appropriately as we will be out in the nature area. Whilst this is aimed at Early Years and Key Stage 1 parents, all are very welcome.

Digital Citizenship


Description: Even the most in-tune parents could use some extra tips for keeping up with the fast-changing media landscape. This comprehensive presentation addresses the biggest concerns parents of primary children have: managing screen time, getting a mobile phone, cyberbullying, social media, and more. This presentation will be delivered in English only.

Years 1 & 2 Phonics and Reading


Description: Have you ever wondered how to support your children with reading at home? Come along to our Reading and Phonics workshop – an interactive session where you will learn how to use phonics and reading comprehension ideas to support reading at home. We will look at a range of reading books and discuss how to engage your child with the text and pick out interesting topics of conversation which will help them develop their reading skills.

The Importance of a Healthy Body Image


Description: In this workshop we take a look at why having a positive body image during childhood is so important, how a negative body image can affect children, and the steps we are taking at BSB to promote a positive body image.
