Excellent British international education for students aged 2 to 18
Learning through playful curiosity
We follow an educational approach to learning that aims to ignite a child’s natural curiosity to explore the world around them.
At The British School of Barcelona we use this inquiry approach to learning to empower learners to think critically, to question, to preserve when facing challenges, to be confident, kind and respectful whilst consciously promoting children’s communication and language skills, and physical, personal, social and emotional development.
Play and exploration, active learning, flexible spaces, collaboration with families, intentional teaching and provocations according to children's interests and developmental stages are key aspects of our approach.
We aim to promote active learning where children are viewed as being confident and capable citizens of the world.
«Outstanding in all categories»
The British School of Barcelona has a well-established reputation for providing an excellent education. In fact, BSB has received the independent accreditation that recognises it as an Outstanding school in all categories, following the inspection of British Schools Overseas (BSO) carried out by the UK Department for Education. This recognition represents the highest standard of quality for an international school and demonstrates the strength, quality and excellence of BSB education.
Stimulating spaces that encourage collective play, games and socialising
Providing the right setting is a key part of a successful foundation, which is why we have created bespoke environments for our youngest students that are innovative and creative, yet warm and inviting.
Meet our Early Years team
We have a team of passionate, specialised early years educators who uphold the values of love, care and respect. In each class there are two adults, a lead teacher who is responsible for the academic programme and a learning assistant who supports the delivery of the programme.
Each child’s development and learning is individual, and happens at different rates. Your child’s educators are sensitive observers who understand what each child needs in order to be a successful learner. Preschool teachers provide daily learning engagements that are well matched to children’s developing abilities and interests, drawing upon observations and assessments to plan for progression.

FAQs
The Early Years education programme at BSB Castelldefels and BSB City caters to children aged 3 to 5 years, offering a nurturing environment to develop foundational skills. At BSB Sitges, the programme begins at age 2, providing an earlier start to a holistic educational journey.
Our Early Years education offers an immersive learning environment for young children, focusing primarily on English. The programme uses play and games to help children engage with the language and develop key skills across seven areas of learning, ensuring a well-rounded education. This approach promotes not only language acquisition but also social, cognitive, and emotional growth. Spanish is introduced in Year 1, with Catalan beginning in Year 2.
In both the classroom and outdoor spaces, children engage in a variety of activities that stimulate their learning and development. These include guided sessions with specialist staff, storytelling, role-play, collaborative experiences, and independent exploration. Activities such as outdoor learning, imaginative play, and shared mealtimes help foster communication, social skills, and physical development. Real-world connections and experiences, along with hands-on tasks in literacy, mathematics, and the arts, encourage curiosity, creativity, and a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
At BSB our purpose-built Early Years spaces are designed to inspire creativity and curiosity. Bright, welcoming classrooms create vibrant environments that engage children in learning. Large outdoor play areas promote physical development through active play and exploration. We also provide a wide range of stimulating resources and natural materials that encourage inquiry and imaginative thinking.
