Welcome from the Executive Principal of The British School of Barcelona
Graded as ‘Outstanding in every category’ in our recent inspection, we have a proud, well-established reputation for providing a world-class international education to students from two to eighteen.
Academic outcomes are very important and BSB students obtain excellent examination results which enable them to access top universities in Spain and around the world. However, in order to thrive in a rapidly evolving world, young people need more than just top grades. They need to develop the skills and attributes they will require in a world where many jobs will be automated and distinctly 'human' qualities – creativity, curiosity, collaboration – will be prized above all else.
School should also be fun and BSB offers a nurturing environment where young people can flourish and emerge ready to take on the challenges that await them with confidence and certainty.
We'd love you to come and visit our campuses in Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sitges, — or you can book an online private visit for BSB Maresme — to find out more about why BSB could be the right school for your child.
Neil Tetley
Executive Principal
'Outstanding in Every Category'
The British School of Barcelona has retained the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition an international school can receive and places us as one of the best British schools in the world.
The British Schools Overseas inspection is accredited by the British government, and we are the only school in Barcelona to have this badge of quality.
'The British School of Barcelona (BSB) provides a very high standard of education, which is supported by excellent relationships in a safe, very caring and well-organised school community.'
An outstanding private school in Barcelona, one of the most dynamic, innovative and cosmopolitan capitals of Europe
The Good Schools Guide
We are extremely proud that a reviewer from The Good Schools Guide International visited us and reviewed our school. The result? An impartial, straight-talking and thoroughly researched school review for each of our campuses.
'Playing, exploring, creating and thinking freely in their own way is the basis of early years education and is the start of a journey of growth and development which continues through the school.'

🧠 At BSB, emotional intelligence is at the heart of school life.
🌈 In this video, BSB Nexus students explain how our 7 Steps Programme empowers children to understand, manage, and grow from their emotions — both individually and in their relationships with others.
👥 With the 7 Steps Programme, students develop lifelong skills that help them face academic and personal challenges with confidence. You can learn more about the initiative with BSB Teacher Marga Sarda in our YouTube Channel.
🌟 This video forms part of our BSB School Development Plan, where Emotional Intelligence is a key focus. It shows how it becomes a daily practice at BSB, shaping resilient, reflective, and empathetic young people ready for any challenge.

✨ Last Friday, a group of keen readers from our BSB Castelldefels Secondary had the exciting opportunity to take part in “El Club dels Experts” (@club.dels.experts.cast), a radio podcast about reading that features book discussions, recommendations, and improvisation activities, broadcast by Radio Castelldefels (@radiocastelldefels).
🎙️ The programme host and sound technician visited our school to record two episodes, which will be released in the new year. It was fantastic to see our students speak so confidently and enthusiastically about their favourite books and characters, connecting with one another through shared interests and responding thoughtfully — and often improvising brilliantly — to a wide range of questions.
📚 Alongside well-loved fiction such as The Hunger Games and Harry Potter, students also tackled non-fiction books, exploring important topics like social media and wellbeing in sport. Their ability to think on their feet and discuss these themes with maturity truly impressed everyone. All of this was done in Catalan, showcasing their excellent oracy skills and passion for reading.
👏 Thank you to our students for representing the school so brilliantly.
👉 Stay tuned as we’ll be sharing the programmes as they are released, so you can listen to our very own “experts” 😉

☕ A wonderful morning celebrating Oracy through Music, Art & Physical Education!
🌟 Our BSB City community enjoyed a relaxed coffee morning with parents where students showcased their growing confidence to express ideas, perform, and communicate through a variety of creative subjects:
🔹 Our Year 10 musicians performed pieces contributing to her iGCSE coursework.
🔹 A Year 11 PE student shared how he records and analyses his own sports performances to explain key techniques for his iGCSE programme.
🔹 And a Year 13 IB student presented her incredible artwork, giving us insight into her creative process.
💬 This opportunity to present to families allowed parents to see how our enriched curriculum comes to life — and how what we teach in the classroom takes shape as students prepare for their future examinations.
💛 Thank you to all the families who joined us to hear these inspiring student presentations and to connect with teachers and one another.

🐉 Our Year 6 pupils at BSB Sitges took their Enterprise Project to the next level with a real Dragon’s Den experience!
💡Pitching in business teams, they presented their Christmas product ideas to Headteachers Emily Henderson & Andrew Marshall, plus Stephen and Lyssandra, Year 6 Parents — showcasing creativity, persuasive communication, and teamwork.
🎄From projecs involving eco-friendly crackers, personalised cards and festive baubles, they defended their costs, explained their profit plans, and answered tough questions about materials and sustainability.
👏They’re now getting ready to sell their creations at next Thursday’s Christmas Fair — a brilliant step in their real-world learning journey as future entrepreneurs.

✨ Our Year 11 and Year 12 students from BSB City took part in the thirteenth edition of the Barcelona Model United Nations (MUN) Conference — a fully student-organised event since its beginning, and a very important platform to practise and refine Oracy skills.
🌍 Throughout the conference, our delegates engaged in debate, asked informed questions, and collaborated with peers from schools across the region.
🌐 MUN events allow students to act as country delegates, debate global issues, and develop essential skills in communication, negotiation, research, and critical thinking.
🤝 Thank you to @bcnmun.official for providing a valuable experience that supports students’ confidence and global awareness.
📚 Curious about our ‘BSB Speaks’ Oracy Programme? Just released our ‘BSB Speaks’ parent booklets, available in English and Spanish. These resources offer families a clear overview of our Oracy programme from Early Years to Pre-University. Access the English version in the link in our stories!

📖 The English Department at BSB had the pleasure of hosting an online Poetry Reading and Q&A with the Scottish poet Jackie Kay (@jackiekaypoet)
🌟 Jackie’s poetry is part of the IB English A curriculum, making this a perfect opportunity for our students to see the poems come to life.
💡 Students from both BSB Castelldefels and BSB City joined the online session and asked Jackie a range of questions about her life and work.
💬 As one student reflected, “Seeing the poet live, talking to us and interacting with us was inspirational.”

FAQs
The British School of Barcelona is the only school in Barcelona to have received the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition that an international school can receive. Our educational model stands out for the quality of our teaching, our relationship with families and students, and the global approach of our educational project. Our highly qualified teachers, innovative curriculum, and focus on both academic success and personal growth create a dynamic learning environment. Additionally, we offer two routes for university entry qualifications: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and A Levels (supplemented where necessary with Spanish qualifications). Both are internationally recognised and respected by leading universities around the world.
We ensure personalised attention, effective learning, and a supportive classroom environment to support individual growth. Our average ratio varies depending on the educational stage.
Joining BSB is a simple and streamlined process. Our dedicated Admissions team is here to support you every step of the way. To get started, you’ll need to complete the online application form and provide your child’s most recent school reports, passports/IDs, and references (if applicable). This allows us to begin the admissions process and ensure we can meet your child's needs. Depending on your child’s age and the year of entry, we will invite you and your child to either an informal assessment or an interview to evaluate their English proficiency for the appropriate year group. Additionally, your child will have an interview with the Headteacher as part of the process.
