History of The British School of Barcelona
Founded sixty-seven years ago, BSB has flourished into an outstanding, high-performing school with more than two thousand students in three locations
The school is founded as The Anglo-American School in Castelldefels.

The school is renamed as The British School of Barcelona and moves to the current location in Castelldefels.

The British School of Barcelona joins the international education group Cognita.

Our 50th Anniversary
|
BSB expands with the acquisition of the BSB Sitges campus for children in Early Years and Primary.

BSB opens BSB Nexus, a state-of-the-art Pre-University Campus in Castelldefels that offers a differentiated global pre-university experience to students aged 16-18.

BSB builds a new 9,000 m2 rugby and football pitch to further enhance the school’s sports facilities in Castelldefels.

BSB opens the BSB City Esperança Campus, a new campus in the heart of Barcelona (Sarrià-Sant Gervasi) for students in Early Years and Year 1 (3 to 6 years).
BSB opens a top-notch BSB STEM Centre in Castelldefels.
BSB is accredited as an Outstanding School in every Category following the BSO inspection. This confirms BSB as one of the best British schools in the world.

BSB achieves the Wellbeing Award for Schools (WAS) formally recognising our very high standards of provision for emotional wellbeing and mental health within our school community.

BSB opens the BSB City Lucà Campus, also in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, thus extending its outstanding 21st century educational experience to students until 18 years in Barcelona.

Seventy-one nationalities now represented within the student body.

BSB announces the opening of a new campus in Cabrera de Mar in September 2026. The new BSB Maresme campus will initially welcome children aged 3–9, expanding to Secondary from 2027, and eventually accommodating up to 700 students.
BSB students get excellent exam results, significantly above national averages at GCSE, IB and A Level.
