BSB Nexus has hosted the British Education Fair 2022, an annual event organised by the British Council, which this year has counted for the first time with the collaboration of the British Embassy, and which has brought together more than 2,000 students from 40 schools between its editions in Barcelona, Madrid and Malaga throughout the week. Thanks to the presence of a large number of British universities, this event has established itself as a benchmark meeting point for students seeking to focus their careers from an international perspective and UK higher education institutions. It is an event that allows visitors to chat with different university representatives, resolve doubts or discuss possible study options among the best university destinations.
For this year’s edition, the British Council of Spain has chosen the BSB Nexus Pre-University campus of The British School of Barcelona as the host venue for the event in Barcelona, in which a total of 40 British universities have participated. These included several universities from the prestigious Russell Group, such as the University of Cambridge, Imperial College London, University College London and the University of Warwick, among others. The event was inaugurated by the Director of the Department for International Trade (DIT) in Madrid, Belinda Coombes, on behalf of the British Embassy. In her speech, Coombes stressed that Spain is a benchmark country in terms of British education, as it is the first country in Europe and the second in the world with the most British schools and the fourth country in the European Union with the most students in UK universities, reaching 14,000 last year. According to Belinda Coombes: ‘The UK’s academic reputation is renowned worldwide and British universities are ranked among the best in the world. The British Embassy is very grateful to The British School of Barcelona for hosting this Fair and for its commitment to academic excellence’.
This event allows for closer ties between local young talent and British educational institutions: in Spain alone, one in three students from British schools choose to study at British universities. According to Carolina Jiménez, Director of Education at the British Council in Spain: ‘students remain interested in British education as it develops their critical thinking and gives them the opportunity to further their careers in sectors with a future’.
BSB Nexus: a Unique, International Pre-University Experience
BSB Nexus is a Pre-University campus focused exclusively on the training of 16-to-18-year-old students. BSB Nexus’ broad educational offer, where both A Level and International Baccalaureate are taught and Spanish qualifications are accredited, is geared towards training students in the most in-demand academic knowledge and skills of the 21st century, enabling them to shape their future with curiosity, innovation, resilience, and leadership skills. Placing the Education Fair in a unique environment like BSB Nexus means connecting the best of the Pre-University world with the reality of university life.
The choice of the BSB Castelldefels campus of The British School of Barcelona is part of the UK’s educational strategy to consolidate its presence in an ecosystem of Pre-University talent such as the one present in Barcelona. Proof of this is that, last year, 26% of BSB Nexus graduates opted to study at British universities such as those attending this fair. Another 33% opted for other international universities. Catherine Burns, Assistant Headteacher at The British School of Barcelona, explains that: ‘It was a pleasure for The British School of Barcelona to host the Fair at our Nexus Pre-University Centre, to see the space transformed from a place of education and learning to a hub for connecting students with UK universities. It was a fantastic event to celebrate the benefits of higher education on offer in the UK’.
