Welcome from the Executive Principal of The British School of Barcelona
Graded as ‘Outstanding in every category’ in our recent inspection, we have a proud, well-established reputation for providing a world-class international education to students from two to eighteen.
Academic outcomes are very important and BSB students obtain excellent examination results which enable them to access top universities in Spain and around the world. However, in order to thrive in a rapidly evolving world, young people need more than just top grades. They need to develop the skills and attributes they will require in a world where many jobs will be automated and distinctly 'human' qualities – creativity, curiosity, collaboration – will be prized above all else.
School should also be fun and BSB offers a nurturing environment where young people can flourish and emerge ready to take on the challenges that await them with confidence and certainty.
We'd love you to come and visit our campuses in Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sitges, — or you can book an online private visit for BSB Maresme — to find out more about why BSB could be the right school for your child.
Neil Tetley
Executive Principal
Recognised by the leading Education Rankings in Spain
We believe that educational excellence is built day by day in the classroom. The school has been featured in some of Spain’s most prestigious education rankings, compiled by leading media outlets and educational platforms that assess factors such as the teaching approach, academic performance, international outlook, student support, and the quality of the facilities.
'Outstanding in Every Category'
The British School of Barcelona has retained the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition an international school can receive and places us as one of the best British schools in the world.
The British Schools Overseas inspection is accredited by the British government, and we are the only school in Barcelona to have this badge of quality.
'The British School of Barcelona (BSB) provides a very high standard of education, which is supported by excellent relationships in a safe, very caring and well-organised school community.'
An outstanding private school in Barcelona, one of the most dynamic, innovative and cosmopolitan capitals of Europe
The Good Schools Guide
We are extremely proud that a reviewer from The Good Schools Guide International visited us and reviewed our school. The result? An impartial, straight-talking and thoroughly researched school review for each of our campuses.
'Playing, exploring, creating and thinking freely in their own way is the basis of early years education and is the start of a journey of growth and development which continues through the school.'

✨ A glimpse into our little artists at work✨
🎨 Our Early Years students experiment with colours, textures, and ideas daily as part of their core development in the first years they join us.
🌈 The arts give children a powerful way to express themselves beyond words: supporting emotional wellbeing and helping them make sense of the world around them.
💡 And while they’re creating, they’re also building essential skills—from fine motor control and language to problem-solving and self-expression—laying the foundations for lifelong learning.

🌹 Feliç Sant Jordi!
📸 What a fantastic day full of roses, literature, book characters and plays! Here’s a recap of special moments across our campuses — celebrating local Catalan culture, showcasing our students’ spoken Catalan, and of course enjoying Sant Jordi performances from our youngest pupils.
🎭 We also loved seeing the creative dressing up across all campuses as part of Book Week 2026. We’ve hosted Puppet Plays, Book Swaps and Book Fairs. Even an online Poetry session with Nick Toczek, which students enjoyed so much!
📖 Our older students took part in a variety of activities in class, and had a great time selling books and roses during their breaks. Also Jocs Florals where students competed with their Catalan creative written peaces!
❤️ We wish una bona Diada de Sant Jordi to everyone in the BSB community — celebrating this special day together and a shared love of reading!

🏕️ Last weekend, our BSB Castelldefels Year 11 students completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award assessed expedition.
🗺️ After months of planning, students set out on a challenging 3-day route in the Ripoll area—navigating independently, carrying all their kit, and becoming fully self-sufficient along the way.
📵 With no phones or technology, and basic camping facilities in the heart of nature, they relied on teamwork, resilience, and determination. They cooked together each morning and evening and completed creative group projects, including a music video, a cooking show, and reflections on life without social media.
🏞️ The route began in Sant Quirze de Besora, visiting Santa Maria de Besora, before continuing between campsites near Sant Quirze and St Pere de Torelló, passing the waterfalls Salt de Mir and Salt de Molí.
🎓 At BSB, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a globally recognised youth development programme within our Enrichment Programme that helps students build confidence, leadership, and lifelong skills through real-world challenges beyond the classroom.

🎓 This week, BSB Nexus hosted the closing ceremony for this year`s Sharing to Learn Programme — one of our most cherished initiatives at BSB. The ceremony was a moment to recognise the dedication of our Year 12 Language Assistants and our local partner schools, Edumar and Garigot in Castelldefels.
🏛️ We were honoured to welcome Mr Eduard Carbonell, Inspector of Education from the Generalitat de Catalunya, and Ms Sònia Luguarda, Coordinator of Foreign Language Programmes at ST Baix Llobregat, alongside Mark Woodward, Headteacher of Secondary and Pre-University, and Ramon Rius, Programme Coordinator at BSB, who led the institutional opening.
💬 During the ceremony, our students shared their reflections on what turned out to be a truly life-changing experience. Many arrived expecting to teach — and left amazed by how much they had learned themselves, both from the experience and from the young children they supported along the way.
🎥 The most heartwarming moment of the afternoon was watching the videos recorded by each class at the local partner schools — filled with messages of gratitude, laughter, and more than a few heartfelt "we`ll miss you"s.
🌱 BSB has been part of this initiative since 2012, and through it we continue to strengthen our bonds with local schools, fostering genuine collaboration and mutual growth. The programme enriches the language skills of Primary pupils while helping our Pre-University students build essential life skills — from self-confidence and leadership to creativity and teamwork. Seeing how much they`ve grown, and the real connections they`ve forged, it reminds us why this programme matters so much.
🙏 A huge thank you to Susana and Víctor for making it all possible. We look forward to many more years of this wonderful collaboration!

FAQs
The British School of Barcelona is the only school in Barcelona to have received the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition that an international school can receive. Our educational model stands out for the quality of our teaching, our relationship with families and students, and the global approach of our educational project. Our highly qualified teachers, innovative curriculum, and focus on both academic success and personal growth create a dynamic learning environment. Additionally, we offer two routes for university entry qualifications: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and A Levels (supplemented where necessary with Spanish qualifications). Both are internationally recognised and respected by leading universities around the world.
We ensure personalised attention, effective learning, and a supportive classroom environment to support individual growth. Our average ratio varies depending on the educational stage.
Joining BSB is a simple and streamlined process. Our dedicated Admissions team is here to support you every step of the way. To get started, you’ll need to complete the online application form and provide your child’s most recent school reports, passports/IDs, and references (if applicable). This allows us to begin the admissions process and ensure we can meet your child's needs. Depending on your child’s age and the year of entry, we will invite you and your child to either an informal assessment or an interview to evaluate their English proficiency for the appropriate year group. Additionally, your child will have an interview with the Headteacher as part of the process.
