Welcome from the Executive Principal of The British School of Barcelona
Graded as ‘Outstanding in every category’ in our recent inspection, we have a proud, well-established reputation for providing a world-class international education to students from two to eighteen.
Academic outcomes are very important and BSB students obtain excellent examination results which enable them to access top universities in Spain and around the world. However, in order to thrive in a rapidly evolving world, young people need more than just top grades. They need to develop the skills and attributes they will require in a world where many jobs will be automated and distinctly 'human' qualities – creativity, curiosity, collaboration – will be prized above all else.
School should also be fun and BSB offers a nurturing environment where young people can flourish and emerge ready to take on the challenges that await them with confidence and certainty.
We'd love you to come and visit our campuses in Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sitges, — or you can book an online private visit for BSB Maresme — to find out more about why BSB could be the right school for your child.
Neil Tetley
Executive Principal
'Outstanding in Every Category'
The British School of Barcelona has retained the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition an international school can receive and places us as one of the best British schools in the world.
The British Schools Overseas inspection is accredited by the British government, and we are the only school in Barcelona to have this badge of quality.
'The British School of Barcelona (BSB) provides a very high standard of education, which is supported by excellent relationships in a safe, very caring and well-organised school community.'
An outstanding private school in Barcelona, one of the most dynamic, innovative and cosmopolitan capitals of Europe
The Good Schools Guide
We are extremely proud that a reviewer from The Good Schools Guide International visited us and reviewed our school. The result? An impartial, straight-talking and thoroughly researched school review for each of our campuses.
'Playing, exploring, creating and thinking freely in their own way is the basis of early years education and is the start of a journey of growth and development which continues through the school.'

✨ Developing Confident Communicators
🎤 Last week, parents across our campuses joined workshops hosted by James Petrie, our Assistant Executive Principal, to explore ‘BSB Speaks’ - our whole-school Oracy programme helping students become articulate, confident communicators.
📝 They discovered how Oracy is embedded at every stage: from Early Years vocabulary building to Secondary & Pre-University debate, discussion, and presentation skills.
🗨️Early Years & Primary Deputy Heads across campuses also shared the foundational work we are doing, highlighting how essential skills begin developing from the very start of a child’s learning journey.
🗣 Parents also took part in a hands-on exercise, applying our 7 ‘How’s’ as they introduced themselves — experiencing firsthand how these principles boost confidence and effective communication.
💬 There are plenty of opportunities throughout the year to see our pupils practising Oracy in classrooms and school events, so keep checking the Cognita Connect calendar to stay updated on family events.
📺 Follow our School Development Plan 2025-28 on YouTube, where a dedicated playlist showcases Oracy and many other initiatives. ️

🌿 Outdoor adventures in Reception!
🍂 This week, our BSB Castelldefels Reception pupils enjoyed a walking morning, exploring nature, observing seasonal changes, and collecting treasures like leaves, pinecones, and acorns.
🌰 They practiced respecting the environment, staying safe, and even measured sticks to see if they were the perfect size to collect!
🐻 Bringing stories to life, the children acted out We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, moving through “swishy swashy grass,” and “squelchy mud”, fully immersing themselves in the story while connecting it to the natural environment around them.
🌍 This hands-on experience links to the Understanding the World curriculum, helping children explore and appreciate the natural world, develop observation skills, and learn about seasonal changes.

🌊 Taking learning straight to the shore!
🌿 Our Year 11 BSB City Geography students spent a day in Sitges exploring the real-world science behind coastal erosion.
✨ Accompanied by their teachers and staff from the Barcelona Field Study Centre, they investigated the challenges, science, and management of coastal erosion as part of their IGCSE fieldwork preparation.
📏 They measured sediment size in the swash zone, analysed the slope of the beach to understand erosion patterns, examined the shape and angularity of sediments in the storm beach area, and investigated the rates of erosion on unprotected sections of the coast.
😄 Days like these not only bring classroom theory to life but also give our students the chance to work alongside professional experts, seeing firsthand how knowledge is applied in the real world. Swipe to see some glimpses of the day!

🚀 Our Year 6 pupils at BSB Sitges officially launched their Enterprise Project last Friday!
💡Working in business teams, they took on challenges designed to test their communication, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
🎄They began developing innovative product ideas to sell at the Christmas Fair, thinking carefully about their target audience, costs, and what makes a product stand out.
👏A great start to an inspiring real-world learning journey for our future entrepreneurs.

🌍✨ This week at BSB City, we welcomed the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) team!
💻Students from Secondary and Pre-University took part in assemblies and workshops about the MareNostrum Supercomputer — the most powerful in Spain — learning what a supercomputer is, its uses, and how people from diverse academic backgrounds contribute to this field.
💡Special thanks to Clàudia Balletbò Huertas and Judith Giroud-Gerbetant Deus from WiCS (Women in Computer Science), an initiative within BSC that promotes and supports women in Computer Science and High-Performance Computing.
👩💻 Our students explored the topic of Women in Computing, and dove deeper into the world of data analysis, parallel computing, and the power of collaboration in technology.
💫 As we’ve shared before, some of our Primary students across campuses — and our Year 12 Computer Science students — have also had the opportunity to visit the BSC and see the MareNostrum Supercomputer in person.
🔬 At BSB, we’re proud to keep sparking curiosity in STEM — especially among young girls — and to continue bridging the gender gap in science and technology.

FAQs
The British School of Barcelona is the only school in Barcelona to have received the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition that an international school can receive. Our educational model stands out for the quality of our teaching, our relationship with families and students, and the global approach of our educational project. Our highly qualified teachers, innovative curriculum, and focus on both academic success and personal growth create a dynamic learning environment. Additionally, we offer two routes for university entry qualifications: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and A Levels (supplemented where necessary with Spanish qualifications). Both are internationally recognised and respected by leading universities around the world.
We ensure personalised attention, effective learning, and a supportive classroom environment to support individual growth. Our average ratio varies depending on the educational stage.
Joining BSB is a simple and streamlined process. Our dedicated Admissions team is here to support you every step of the way. To get started, you’ll need to complete the online application form and provide your child’s most recent school reports, passports/IDs, and references (if applicable). This allows us to begin the admissions process and ensure we can meet your child's needs. Depending on your child’s age and the year of entry, we will invite you and your child to either an informal assessment or an interview to evaluate their English proficiency for the appropriate year group. Additionally, your child will have an interview with the Headteacher as part of the process.
