Welcome from the Executive Principal of The British School of Barcelona
Graded as ‘Outstanding in every category’ in our recent inspection, we have a proud, well-established reputation for providing a world-class international education to students from two to eighteen.
Academic outcomes are very important and BSB students obtain excellent examination results which enable them to access top universities in Spain and around the world. However, in order to thrive in a rapidly evolving world, young people need more than just top grades. They need to develop the skills and attributes they will require in a world where many jobs will be automated and distinctly 'human' qualities – creativity, curiosity, collaboration – will be prized above all else.
School should also be fun and BSB offers a nurturing environment where young people can flourish and emerge ready to take on the challenges that await them with confidence and certainty.
We'd love you to come and visit our campuses in Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sitges, — or you can book an online private visit for BSB Maresme — to find out more about why BSB could be the right school for your child.
Neil Tetley
Executive Principal
'Outstanding in Every Category'
The British School of Barcelona has retained the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition an international school can receive and places us as one of the best British schools in the world.
The British Schools Overseas inspection is accredited by the British government, and we are the only school in Barcelona to have this badge of quality.
'The British School of Barcelona (BSB) provides a very high standard of education, which is supported by excellent relationships in a safe, very caring and well-organised school community.'
An outstanding private school in Barcelona, one of the most dynamic, innovative and cosmopolitan capitals of Europe
The Good Schools Guide
We are extremely proud that a reviewer from The Good Schools Guide International visited us and reviewed our school. The result? An impartial, straight-talking and thoroughly researched school review for each of our campuses.
'Playing, exploring, creating and thinking freely in their own way is the basis of early years education and is the start of a journey of growth and development which continues through the school.'

🌍 Geography beyond the classroom
📚 At BSB, geography is more than just a subject in a textbook. Our Secondary students explore the world through hands-on learning, both inside and outside the classroom, using a wide range of resources to better understand the environments around them.
🏙️ Last week, our Year 10 students took their learning into the streets of Barcelona during an exciting field trip focused on urban geography.
📊 By collecting real data and observing how environments change across the city, students investigated urban patterns first-hand, turning Barcelona itself into their classroom.
✨ We feel privileged to have our campuses in such vibrant cities—rich in history, culture, art, and nature—where our students can fully benefit from these inspiring surroundings.

🌍 We are proud to share that BSB Sitges has been recognised as a Level Two Accredited Reference Centre for Children’s Rights by the UNICEF Spanish Committee (@unicef_es)
📚 This recognition celebrates the work of our whole community in embedding the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into everyday school life.
🗣️ The nomination highlighted our strong commitment to children’s rights, particularly in student participation and creating a safe and protective environment, as well as our ongoing work in sustainability and student involvement in decision-making.
📊 Currently, 286 educational centres in Spain are recognised by UNICEF as reference centres for children’s rights education, with more schools joining as candidates in each recognition cycle. In Catalonia, 22 centres currently hold this recognition and now, one of them is BSB Sitges!
💙 A huge thank you to our staff, students and families for helping build a community where children’s rights are understood, respected and lived every day.

🎶 Music is a universal language that every child can enjoy and understand. In Early Years, music plays an important role in supporting children’s development while making learning joyful and engaging.
🎵 Through singing, movement, and rhythm, children develop:
🌟 Language and communication skills
🌟 Memory and pattern recognition
🌟 Coordination and motor skills
🌟 Confidence and emotional expression
🥁 Music also helps create routines in the classroom, encourages creativity, and gives children a way to express themselves — even before they have the words.
🌍 Throughout the year we also share songs linked to different celebrations and traditions around the world, helping children develop cultural awareness while discovering the joy of music.

⚽ A brilliant month of sport across our BSB campuses, with secondary students competing, developing skills and representing the school with pride with other BISA Schools.

🎤 Debatent en català a la UAB
💬 Four BSB Nexus students recently took part in the Catalan Debate League hosted by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (@comunitatuab) debating entirely in Catalan against more than 20 schools from across Catalonia.
💡 Despite being new to the competition format, the team won one of their debates and achieved an outstanding recognition: the maximum score of 5 points for “mastery of the theme” from one of the judges — a score no other team received, including the overall winners.
📝 Preparing for the debate meant researching deeply, building strong arguments, and anticipating counterarguments while working closely as a team. You can read more about how the debate went in our School News website (link in bio!)
🗣️ Experiences like this reflect the purpose of our ‘BSB Speaks’ Oracy Programme, where students develop their confidence, critical thinking and communication skills to express ideas clearly and engage meaningfully with the world around them.

🧮 Outstanding Success at the International Youth Math Challenge!
🌍 Two of our BSB City IB students have achieved remarkable results in the International Youth Math Challenge (IYMC) 2025, a global mathematics competition that tests students’ problem-solving skills through challenging and creative maths questions.
🏅 One student has been awarded Gold, becoming Grand Master of Maths, 1st in Spain, and placing in the top 1% worldwide.
🥉 Another student also achieved an excellent result, earning Bronze and placing within the top 8% globally.
💡 The IYMC brings together students from around the world to challenge their mathematical thinking and expand their knowledge through advanced problem solving.
👏 At BSB we strive to help every student reach their full potential. We support the while also challenging them to stretch further and excel in the areas that inspire them. One of the strengths of a BSB education is the wide range of opportunities we offer, including external competitions where students can showcase their talents, learn from the experience, and enjoy the journey along the way.

FAQs
The British School of Barcelona is the only school in Barcelona to have received the 'Outstanding in Every Category' status following the British Schools Overseas inspection of our school in October 2024. This is the highest recognition that an international school can receive. Our educational model stands out for the quality of our teaching, our relationship with families and students, and the global approach of our educational project. Our highly qualified teachers, innovative curriculum, and focus on both academic success and personal growth create a dynamic learning environment. Additionally, we offer two routes for university entry qualifications: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and A Levels (supplemented where necessary with Spanish qualifications). Both are internationally recognised and respected by leading universities around the world.
We ensure personalised attention, effective learning, and a supportive classroom environment to support individual growth. Our average ratio varies depending on the educational stage.
Joining BSB is a simple and streamlined process. Our dedicated Admissions team is here to support you every step of the way. To get started, you’ll need to complete the online application form and provide your child’s most recent school reports, passports/IDs, and references (if applicable). This allows us to begin the admissions process and ensure we can meet your child's needs. Depending on your child’s age and the year of entry, we will invite you and your child to either an informal assessment or an interview to evaluate their English proficiency for the appropriate year group. Additionally, your child will have an interview with the Headteacher as part of the process.
