A Dream Surprise for Our Girls: Football Icon Alexia Putellas Meets BSB Students
A group of female students at The British School of Barcelona recently experienced a truly unforgettable moment: a surprise meet-and-greet with Alexia Putellas, one of the most celebrated footballers in the world and a powerful role model for young athletes everywhere.
The visit took place during a video shooting where the girls were discussing how they celebrate goals and what drives them to keep playing. Mid-conversation, Alexia walked in — sparking joy and amazement across the room. These students, who are active in our lunchtime clubs, recreational girls’ football, and competitive teams, had the opportunity to meet someone they’ve long admired.
Transmitting Values Through Sport
At BSB, sport is an essential pillar of our character education. More than just competition, it’s a space where students develop grit, resilience, teamwork, and self-discipline, while enhancing their mental and physical wellbeing. And Alexia’s visit was a powerful reminder of the values we aim to foster, both on and off the pitch.
We are proud to be expanding opportunities for girls in sport and to stand alongside trailblazers like Alexia Putellas, who continue to break down barriers and inspire new generations. This moment was also made possible with the support of Iberdrola, who share our vision for equality and empowerment through sport.
Our students walked away not only with treasured memories, but with a renewed sense of confidence and motivation to chase their dreams.
Building more opportunities
Another major highlight at BSB this year has been the launch of our very first Girls-Only Football Team. Competing from Year 6 to Year 9, our U14 girls proudly finished their debut season as runners-up in the Territorial Cup — an incredible achievement that reflects their passion, hard work, and team spirit. You can read more about our BSB Federated Teams in our 2024–2025 Annual Report.
