At The British School of Barcelona, we prioritise creating enriching experiences that allow children to delve deeper into the subjects they are learning. We firmly believe that extending learning beyond the classroom is key for the holistic development of our students, fostering both academic and personal growth.

Our campuses in Barcelona and the surrounding areas enjoy a privileged location, providing easy access to a plethora of internationally renowned museums, theatres, galleries, historic sites, and places of interest. This advantageous setting enables our students to take part in one-day educational visits to explore and connect with the world outside the school walls.

In addition, throughout the year, students are presented with opportunities to participate in overnight trips and residentials, designed to offer team-building activities, outdoor adventures, and the chance to broaden their cultural awareness and global perspective.

Over the past two years, our Educational Visits and Trips programme has reached new heights, offering exciting opportunities for students to expand their horizons, forge new friendships, and gain education beyond the traditional classrooms. A notable example is last year’s sports tour to Florida, where our BSB teams—comprising one basketball team and two football teams (U15 and U16)—immersed themselves in a blend of sporting challenges, new experiences, team building, independence, and personal growth while exploring the offerings of American sports first-hand.

This year, the programme has undergone further development, with Secondary and Pre-University students having just landed from two fantastic skiing trips to Norway and the Italian Alps during the Spring Half-Term. These trips were preceded by the successful Drama and Music trip to London, where students from Years 7 to 11, studying GCSE Music and Drama, as well as members of the school choir, embarked on an unforgettable journey to London. Aligned with their GCSE courses, the trip aimed to expose students to live productions of musical theatre and drama on the West End. Sightseeing added a touch of magic to this incredible experience.

In March, we eagerly anticipate our upcoming trip to Iceland, particularly excited about the cross-curricular links with science, covering biodiversity, ecosystems, climate change, evolution and natural selection, energy, water resources, and organisms and the environment.

April and May will see the annual German, Business and History trip to Berlin, and the French trip to Colliure, which will provide students with an immersive cultural and language experience.

Also in the Summer Term, everyone from Years 2 to 9 will have the opportunity to participate in residential stays in the Catalan countryside. Additionally, students undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh Award at Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels will have their expedition weekends away in nature.

We are dedicated to producing a diverse and engaging programme, putting in considerable effort to provide numerous opportunities that not only enrich learning but also foster the spirit of the BSB community and cultivate the Socialising learning habit. Our commitment to continuous improvement means that we will keep expanding our offerings to include new destinations every year that are sure to captivate our students’ interests.
