School’s Development Plan

Enabling Students to Thrive in a Rapidly Evolving World

At The British School of Barcelona, education is about more than academic success. Academic outcomes are important, and we strive to support students to achieve excellent results, but they are not enough. In order to thrive in the world we live in, a world that is being transformed by AI, students need the personal qualities and attributes to succeed. Therefore, our School Development Plan 2025-2028 focuses on these areas and how we give young people the best possible springboard to the rest of their lives.

The videos below showcase the areas we are working on and the opportunities available to students at BSB.

‘BSB’s leadership offers strong vision and strategic planning with in-depth knowledge of the school’s strengths and priorities for development.’

The Future of Education

Our BSB Executive Principal, Neil Tetley, shares the strategic vision for The British School of Barcelona for 2025–2028, focusing on key priorities including:
  • Preparing students for an evolving and complex global landscape.

  • Strengthening academic excellence while prioritising wellbeing and character development.

  • The responsible and fair use of Artificial Intelligence in education.

The “BSB Speaks” Programme

At BSB, we see oracy (speaking and listening) and the ability to effectively communicate ideas through the spoken word as a transformational skill for our young people to acquire. “BSB Speaks” is the name of the Oracy Programme we have put together to make this happen.

James Petrie, Assistant Executive Principal, explains the guiding principles that underpin our programme’s approach.

Sport at BSB

At BSB we use sport to promote a healthy lifestyle, values of commitment, resilience, discipline, teamwork, leadership, respect, perseverance, and dedication. These are core to life inside and outside the classroom.

Jonny Cross, Director of Sport and PE at BSB, highlights the main features of our Sport programme, including a broad range of curricular and extracurricular opportunities for all key stages.

Emotional Intelligence

At BSB, our students’ all-round development goes far beyond academics — and emotional intelligence is at the heart of it. Supported by our dedicated Wellbeing & Student Support Department, students build lifelong skills that help them face academic and personal situations with confidence.

Marga Sardà, educational psychologist and teacher at BSB, introduces our 7 Steps Emotional Intelligence Programme, an initiative that empowers students to understand, manage, and grow from their emotions.
