BSB Joins the Presentation of the ISC Report on British Schools’ Impact in Spain
The British School of Barcelona proudly participated in the presentation of the Impact of British Schools in Spain report. Conducted by ISC Research and supported by the British Council, the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS), and the British Chamber of Commerce in Spain, the study explores the educational, social, cultural, and economic contributions of British schools across the country.
Our Executive Principal, Neil Tetley, attended the event, which was hosted by Banc Sabadell and presented in partnership with the British Council, NABSS, and the British Chamber of Commerce in Spain.
A Growing Network of British Schools
BSB is proud to be part of the expanding network of British schools in Spain—a sector that now educates around 75,000 students across 143 schools and 180 campuses. Spain hosts more British schools than any other European country, and both the number of schools and student enrolment continue to grow. Over the past five years, the number of British schools has risen by 7%, and student enrolment by 16%, with 87% of students being Spanish nationals. These figures reflect the growing trust in the British curriculum, which emphasises critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.
BSB in Catalonia
As one of the largest British schools in Catalonia, BSB continues to provide high-quality international education through its campuses in Castelldefels, Sitges, and Barcelona city, with a new campus set to open in Maresme in 2026. With over 65 years of experience and more than 2,000 students, BSB exemplifies the strength of the British education model, combining academic rigour with personalized attention and holistic student development.
BSB’s participation in the event also provided an opportunity to share our perspective on the growth of British education in Catalonia and Spain. Following the presentation, Neil Tetley shared key insights and trends with Catalan News, highlighting the ongoing impact of British schools on local communities and families. A Broader Impact
Beyond academic excellence, British schools in Spain make a meaningful contribution to local communities. They attract international families, generate employment, and strengthen local economies through housing, services, and retail. Additionally, they promote bilingualism and cultural exchange, enhancing Spain’s international profile.
Looking ahead, the report identifies opportunities for further growth, including the expansion of multilingual programmes, the promotion of digital and sustainable education, and fostering closer collaboration with the Spanish education system.
BSB is proud to be part of this thriving network of schools, preparing students to succeed in a rapidly changing global environment while contributing to the educational, social, and economic development of the communities in which we operate.
