On the week starting 20th November, The British School of Barcelona Senior Leadership Team attended the annual Cognita US & Europe Leadership Conference, joining school leaders from across the Cognita network to share ideas, collaborate, and strengthen our collective commitment to outstanding education.

Representing BSB were Executive Principal Neil Tetley, Assistant Executive Principal James Petrie, and our Headteachers: Judy Dean and Mark Woodward (BSB Castelldefels), Nicola Davies and Jake Richardson (BSB City), Emily Henderson (BSB Sitges), and Andrew Marshall (BSB Maresme).

The conference featured keynote presentations and collaborative sessions focused on student success, inclusion, and the innovative use of AI in teaching and learning, reflecting Cognita’s mission to provide high-quality education for every student.

Recognition for BSB Leadership
A highlight of the event was the Cognita O Awards, celebrating outstanding contributions across the Cognita Schools community. Judy Dean, Headteacher of Early Years and Primary at BSB Castelldefels, received an award in the We Go Together category alongside Jon Coward, Cognita School Improvement Partner.

They were recognised for their leadership of the Aspiring Leaders Programme, which has supported over 100 educators across Spain, Italy, and Switzerland. The programme combines practical leadership training with school-based change projects, ensuring meaningful impact for students and staff.

‘It has been a real privilege to work with so many aspiring leaders over the past few years,’ said Judy. ‘I feel honoured to have received this recognition for work that has been so rewarding.’

Developing Future Leaders
Launched in 2019 at The British School of Barcelona, the Aspiring Leaders Programme has evolved into a transformative leadership initiative across Cognita’s European schools.

Now in its seventh edition, and led by Judy Dean and Jon Coward, the programme provides a structured and dynamic approach to leadership development. Participants explore topics such as defining leadership, emotional intelligence, the role of AI in education, and implementing meaningful change within their schools.

The course offers participants the opportunity to reflect on their leadership practice, build professional connections, and drive innovation that benefits both staff and students.

Congratulations to Judy and all our BSB leaders for their continued commitment to educational excellence and professional growth across The British School of Barcelona and the wider Cognita community.
