BSB STEAM Centre Expansion Strengthens Interdisciplinary Learning
We are delighted to share the expansion of our BSB STEAM Centre in Castelldefels, an exciting development that reflects our ongoing commitment to innovative, future-ready education and further enhances the specialist facilities available to our students.
The BSB STEAM Centre is used by students from both BSB Castelldefels and BSB Nexus, creating the opportunity for more hands-on learning lessons across disciplines, particularly for older students in Secondary and Pre-University.
As Science remains one of the most popular subject choices at IB Diploma and A Level, this development ensures that we can continue to meet growing demand by increasing capacity for lessons and practical work in a purpose-built environment.
Integrating Creativity and Innovation
A key feature of the expansion is the transition from STEM to STEAM, integrating the Arts alongside Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
The Centre now features a dedicated creative space equipped with sewing machines, a BEAM light table, drawing boards for twelve students, specialist art resources, and 3D printing technology. Student work is proudly displayed throughout the space, including 3D-printed designs and textiles created using the sewing machines.
These unique BSB STEAM Centre facilities enable students to combine scientific thinking with creativity, design and problem-solving, supporting a more holistic approach to learning.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
The revamped BSB STEAM Centre now comprises 897 m² of state-of-the-art interior learning and study spaces, all benefiting from natural light. Facilities include:
- A large collaborative laboratory
- Ten flexible classrooms for science lessons and small-group work
- A preparation room for practical activities
- A dedicated Art classroom
- A scientific garden for hands-on, experimental outdoor learning
In the main laboratory area, water, gas and electricity are supplied through innovative ceiling galleries, allowing complete flexibility in the organisation of experiments and group work.
Interdisciplinary Learning and Sustainability
As part of the BSB Nexus Pre-University enrichment programme, REACH Beyond, the BSB STEAM Centre’s outdoor spaces will be brought to life by the Green Team. With sustainability at its core, students will take ownership of the green space, grow their own vegetables and develop a deeper understanding of environmental responsibility through hands-on, meaningful outdoor learning experiences.
