British Primary School

An innovative and creative primary education

Building upon the solid foundations set through the EYFS Framework, we have carefully designed the English National Curriculum to be innovative and creative, ensuring a personalised pathway for every student leading to high academic success and outstanding progress.

CURRICULUM

An inquiry-based approach to learning

Our team of educators have reflected upon global research and outstanding practice in the design of the curriculum.

Taking inspiration from leading educators, past and present; Steiner, Montessori, and Berger, to name but a few, we have crafted a model which takes upon an inquiry-based approach to learning. This enables our students to develop key learning habits during the full course of their education at BSB, which are taught explicitly through our curriculum.

Curriculum areas are interwoven to create specific links and to allow students to dive deeper into their learning, with a real sense of purpose and rigour. Underpinning the inquiry, students will explore concepts, enabling them to grasp a broader understanding of the world.

Teachers track student’s progress very carefully through a range of assessment methodologies and this reflective practice enables for a more tailored approach which enables success for all. This may include additional support or intervention delivered by our highly trained student support team.

The british curriculum is delivered completely in English, with the exception of Spanish and Catalan lessons. Students requiring additional support when joining the school will also receive an additionally designed EAL programme.

Extremely caring environment for little ones with an amazing introduction to English. Love the educational expectations that push the students to do their best.

Digital Literacy

Integrating EdTech into every area of the primary school

Whilst we are fully immersed in this digital age, as educators we approach the integration of technology at BSB with care and purpose.

Our focused Digital Citizenship programme begins with our youngest students, and this underpins our Digital curriculum throughout the whole school. Online safety is a strategic priority for our whole learning community, where staff, parents and students learn alongside each other in this ever-changing, fast-paced technological world we live in.

Whilst students have some access to mobile devices during Early Years and KS1, this is planned purposefully and timely by the teachers. In KS2, all students are equipped with their own 1-to-1 iPad, which they have as part of their learning toolkit. Students are supported to use the devices to enrich and enhance learning, with a conscious effort to move away from gratuitous, unfocused use which could hinder learning progress.

As students move through KS3, the iPads will be exchanged for laptops, thus adapting to the demands of the Secondary curriculum.

Extra-Curricular

A dynamic programme of extra-curricular activities to explore their passions

We offer a varied menu of extra-curricular opportunities to complement and enhance the curriculum offer, allowing students to explore their passions and learn new skills.

For example, those children wishing to extend their Spanish language acquisition, or journalism skills, they may join clubs like the Magazine Club or the Blogging Club.

For those students wishing to develop strategic and logical thinking, activities like the Chess club are perfect.

For those who enjoy physical activity, we offer a range of sports, from skateboarding to trampolining, and we also take advantage of our partnerships with neighbouring sports centres and clubs, who also offer swimming, paddel and tennis lessons.

Always with an eye on the next steps, we offer a Junior Duke Award in KS2, which prepares students for the International Award which they may embark upon in Secondary school.

Our clubs are offered during lunchtimes and after school and there is a varied range across all campuses.

LEADERSHIP

Having a vision to inspire positive change

Leadership is a key learning habit which we highlight and develop in all our students. Leadership for students in Primary is ‘having a vision to inspire positive change’.

We are extremely active in providing opportunities for growth in this area. For example, students have clear roles and responsibilities within each class. We have mini leaders in KS1 who support with assemblies and celebrations.

We have Student Council representatives in each class from Year 1 to Year 6, and they take a very active role in the development of school life.

In Year 6 we offer a host of more formal leadership opportunities, from House Captains to Wellbeing leaders, and the students are appointed following a rigorous recruitment process. Students aspire to this as they move towards Year 6, as they are seen to be very prestigious roles.

“My son is growing and progressing each year. His confidence is growing and he has a real passion for learning thanks to his dedicated teachers.”

OUR TEACHERS

A team of passionate teachers that inspire learning

All of our primary school teachers are fully qualified native English speakers, with specialisms to complement our curriculum. We also have a team of languages teachers who deliver the Spanish & Catalan curriculum, whilst working alongside the class teachers in their training, development and preparation of the curriculum, enabling a shared pedagogical approach. We also have highly trained music and PE specialists who deliver lessons across each class.

In order to complement the curriculum further, we will call upon our secondary specialist colleagues throughout the year to offer enriched experiences across a variety of subject areas.

We also have staff who are Beach School and Forest School trained, allowing us to make the most of our amazing location between the mountains and the sea.
