A Pre-Opening First Look at BSB Maresme
The British School of Barcelona proudly celebrated the pre-opening of our newest campus, BSB Maresme, in Cabrera de Mar, on 22nd January. Set to open in September 2026, this represents our largest expansion project to date, extending BSB’s reach north of Barcelona and joining our existing campuses in Barcelona city, Castelldefels and Sitges.
On the occasion, we welcomed authorities of the town council, partners, local nurseries, relocation services and renowned sports clubs in the area. Guests had the unique opportunity to see the future of BSB Maresme firsthand from our Admissions space, a welcoming area with panoramic glass windows overlooking the construction site. This space will also host our upcoming Open Days, giving families a chance to watch the campus come to life.
Inspiring Presentations and Special Guests
The day began with presentations from BSB’s Senior Leadership Team, including Neil Tetley, Executive Principal; Andrew Marshall, Headteacher of Early Years and Primary of BSB Maresme; and Maria Sintes, Business Manager. They were joined by senior members of Cognita, the leading education group that BSB is part of, including Imma Prat, Head of Marketing and Admissions for Spain and Italy, and Manuel Villanueva, Property Programme Manager for Spain and Italy.
We were also honoured to welcome Cabrera de Mar townhall authorities, including Mayor Òscar Fernández Cuñado and Albert Ventura Viñals, Tercer Tinent d’Alcalde de Territori i Sostenibilitat i regidor d’Esports, who welcomed BSB to the town and congratulated the project and campus design for ‘being sustainable and high-quality buildings’ that add ‘social value to the town.’
The mayor highlighted that hosting The British School of Barcelona ‘puts Cabrera de Mar on the map’ and places it ‘at the highest level of private education in Catalonia and Southern Europe.’ He also praised the BSB education programme, saying that it ‘does not only educate from a language perspective, but also from a values perspective,’ and that ‘in Cabrera de Mar and in Catalonia, education with values is key for us.’
A Glimpse of the Day
The presentations began with Neil Tetley, who shared how we are bringing BSB Education to Maresme, followed by Andrew Marshall, who outlined the school’s educational approach and the unique experience families can expect at the school.
Andrew Marshall, who brings over fifteen years of teaching and leadership experience from the UK, Singapore, and China, highlighted the warm welcome from the local community, saying: ‘We are proud to join the community of Cabrera de Mar and, by extension, the towns of the Maresme region. The area’s rich natural and cultural surroundings will offer our students countless opportunities—not only to enjoy its green spaces, but also to connect with local residents and truly feel part of the region, helping to bring BSB closer to Maresme.’
The highlight of the morning was the unveiling of a 3D model of the campus, allowing everyone to see firsthand the thoughtful design and layout of the new facilities. Guests then enjoyed a relaxed breakfast while continuing to explore the model, networking with staff, and sharing their excitement about the campus.
