Twenty-two students from BSB Castelldefels and BSB Nexus proudly represented The British School of Barcelona at the Iberian Choral Festival 2026 in Barcelona, hosted by the American School of Barcelona. This international event brought together young musicians from leading international schools across Europe.

Now in its fifth year, the BSB Chamber Choir has grown from six members into a talented ensemble of twenty-two students from Years 9 to 13. Through weekly rehearsals, the group develops advanced vocal technique and masters challenging four- and five-part harmonies under the guidance of their dedicated teacher.

The choir forms part of BSB’s REACH Beyond Enrichment Programme, with Secondary and Pre-University students joining through the Bravo Club. This programme provides structured training that supports musical excellence and prepares students for high-level performances at school events and, now, international festivals.

A Diverse and Demanding Repertoire
The festival programme brought together a rich variety of musical styles, including Musical Theatre, Classical, Gospel, and Popular music. For the event, BSB students prepared an ambitious and contrasting selection of pieces, including:

  • Do You Hear the People Sing
  • Famine Song
  • Hear My Prayer
  • La Tricotea
  • Mungu Ni Pendo
  • The Call
  • Water Fountain
  • Give Me Music

Collaboration and Excellence
The festival brought together choirs and orchestras from international schools across Europe: The American School of Barcelona, The American School of Madrid, the Marymount International School of Rome, and the Carlucci American International School of Lisbon.

The experience culminated in two concerts: the Iberian Festival Gala Concert held in Barcelona on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th February 2026. Singing as part of a combined choir of over a hundred voices, accompanied by a full orchestra, was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many students.

Broadening Horizons Through Music
While the BBS Chamber Choir students regularly perform at the school’s Christmas Concert and Choir Festival, this was their first time participating in an international event of this scale. This milestone reflects the dedication of our students and staff, as well as BSB’s commitment to providing enriching, high-quality extracurricular opportunities.

We are immensely proud of our singers for representing the school with professionalism, enthusiasm, and musical excellence. Their performance was a true celebration of collaboration, creativity, and the power of music to bring young people together across cultures. Congratulations to all involved in making this outstanding achievement possible, especially our Music Department!
