The British School of Barcelona is thrilled to announce its participation in CNN International Call to Earth Day 2023, taking place on 28th November 2023. This global initiative celebrates our planet’s intrinsic value and the collective responsibility to protect it.

Call to Earth Day 2023, under the theme ‘Our Shared Home,’ explores the critical connection between urban development and nature. It highlights the impact of city living on both wild environments around the world and the hidden wilderness within our cities.

BSB’s collaboration with CNN encompasses two inspiring projects, both aimed at fostering environmental awareness and advocacy among students. The first involves CNN content creators working closely with our students to guide them in creating impactful environmental video reports. This unique collaboration empowers students to become effective communicators of environmental concerns.

Additionally, our younger students are using their creative talents to produce artwork that vividly conveys their belief in the planet’s worthiness of protection. These creative expressions serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of sustainability.

Hannah Wright, Year 6 teacher at the BSB Sitges campus, underscores the project’s significance: ‘This project has proven invaluable to our students, offering a unique learning experience that extends far beyond the classroom. The breadth of their chosen topics has been impressive, with some students shedding light on the dire consequences and causes of a terrible drought plaguing their local area. Air pollution, the endangered Iberian lynx, and the critically threatened monk seal have also been passionately explored. As they delve into their chosen environmental topics, our students are not just raising awareness, but also becoming influential voices advocating for change.’

A Cognita Schools’ Partnership
BSB is participating alongside thirty-nine other Cognita Schools worldwide, under an exclusive partnership with our international schools’ group.

Commenting on the partnership, Dr Simon Camby, Cognita’s Group Chief Education Officer, said: ‘Thank you to CNN International for working with our students on such an important and meaningful topic. This initiative combines skills such as the use of research, structure, and clarity of thought with the opportunity for our students to develop their sense of agency and social responsibility. By highlighting the main issues of today, our students can initiate change for tomorrow.’
