We are very excited about the upcoming opening of the BSB City Main Campus in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi next September. Although BSB has already been present in Barcelona since 2021 at the BSB Foundation Campus, the new 6,800 m2 building will allow the school to expand its educational offer in the city to students up to the age of eighteen. With a consolidated track record of more than 65 years in Castelldefels and Sitges, BSB brings its model of academic excellence to the city of Barcelona in response to the growing interest of families who would like to offer their children a BSB education close to where they live.

Thanks to the €15 million investment in Barcelona from our Cognita Group to launch the BSB City project in the city of Barcelona, The British School of Barcelona reinforces its position as an international school of reference in Barcelona and Catalonia, being the only school in Catalonia to be rated as ‘Outstanding in every Category’, the highest recognition awarded by the British government.

BSB City: All about our new international school in Barcelona

The BSB City Campus consists in two buildings, just ten minutes away from each other and connected by school transport: the BSB City Foundation Campus, next to Passeig de la Bonanova, at Carrer de l’Esperança, 32, which opened in September 2021 for students aged three and above; and the BSB City Main Campus, next to Passeig de Sant Gervasi, at Carrer Lucà, 1, which will open its doors in September for Primary, Secondary, and Pre-University students. As a result, from the 2023-2024 academic year, BSB will be able to offer around 2,500 places across all its campuses in Barcelona, Castelldefels, and Sitges.

The facilities are one of the most important features of the BSB City Main Campus. The new building has 5,600 m2 of indoor learning spaces and 1,200 m2 of outdoor recreational and sports spaces. The design of these spaces follows the most innovative criteria in terms of education, sustainability, and comfort to ensure an outstanding working and learning environment. The school has twenty-three classrooms equipped with flexible furniture and state-of-the-art pedagogical and technological resources, as well as fourteen spacious rooms designed to encourage creativity, curiosity, socialisation, and independent study. These include three science laboratories, an art room, a music room, three soundproofed rehearsal rooms, workshop rooms, reading areas, a dining hall with its own kitchen, an indoor gym/auditorium, and common and rest areas.

As a new Pre-University centre, the BSB City Main Campus also has a unique 170 m2 floor with state-of-the-art design and a 140 m2 garden terrace with spectacular views of the sea. On this upper floor of the building, BSB will replicate its Pre-University ‘Nexus Experience’ programme, which has been successfully running in BSB Nexus, Castelldefels since 2018 and which helps students achieve outstanding academic results to be able to access some of the best universities in Spain and around the world. At BSB City, students aged sixteen to eighteen will follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, a prestigious stimulating programme in which BSB students achieve a 100% pass rate and scores above the international average.

In addition, thanks to an agreement with the historic Club Tennis Barcino next door, all BSB City students will have access to 22,000 m2 of sports facilities for Physical Education and after-school activities, including a heated swimming pool, an indoor multi-sports hall, eleven tennis courts, six paddle courts, two fronton courts, a mini tennis court and a table tennis room. These complement the school’s own 1,200 m2 sports facilities, which include a paddle tennis court and a climbing wall, making it one of the schools in Barcelona with fantastic sports facilities in the centre of the city.

All facilities are designed with a strong commitment to sustainability, with the BSB City Main Campus as a green space in the heart of the city. The new building combines solutions to improve the acoustic, thermal, and lighting quality, always prioritising natural light and the use of renewable energies, with ninety solar panels, as do all other BSB buildings.

BSB City: Two years of success in the city

Since opening the Foundation Campus in 2021, BSB City has followed the highly personalised model of excellence that characterises all other BSB schools. As a result, enrolments have doubled in the last year and applications for the new campus are in high demand. This is undoubtedly due to our supportive, engaged, and welcoming group of children and parents. The community here is incredibly special and unique and new families are welcomed with open arms. In fact, a huge percentage of our new enrolments come from referrals and recommendations from very happy BSB City families.
