As part of our commitment to working in close partnership with families, The British School of Barcelona is proud to introduce a brand-new video series for Early Years families.

Designed to support parents of young children, the series explores the topics that matter most at this important stage of development. Through authentic, everyday moments, the videos capture children learning, playing, and thriving, offering a window into how learning happens through play, interaction, and experience. They also provide practical ideas, insights, and simple strategies that families can use at home. By focusing on key areas such as communication, confidence, early learning, and wellbeing, the series aims to build understanding and help families feel more informed, supported, and connected to their child’s development.

The videos are available on the school’s YouTube channel through dedicated playlists: Understanding How Children Learn and Practical Guidance for Families.

Understanding How Children Learn
Underpinned by the principles of the English Curriculum of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and aligned with the seven areas of learning—communication and language; personal, social and emotional development; physical development; literacy; mathematics; understanding the world; and expressive arts and design—the Play. Explore. Learn. series explores how children develop essential skills through play, exploration, and meaningful experiences.

For example, in the first episode, BSB Sitges Early Years Phase Leader, Rhian Ager, explains why play is fundamental to development and how it underpins everything that happens in the classroom. Through active play, exploration and high-quality teaching, our students establish strong foundations for future academic success.

Practical Guidance for Families
The Early Years Parent Support series is designed to address common questions and concerns that families may have, particularly those who are experiencing school life for the first time. Each episode provides practical, reassuring advice from experienced teachers, helping parents navigate everyday challenges with confidence and clarity, and feel supported as their child begins their learning journey.

The first episode, presented by BSB Sitges Reception teacher Nicola Spofforth, explores a topic many families can relate to: ‘My child is not speaking yet—should I worry?’.

A Whole-School Early Years Perspective
These first videos mark the beginning of a growing library of resources for families. Looking ahead, BSB aims to expand both series by featuring contributions from teachers across all campuses: BSB Sitges, BSB Castelldefels, BSB City and BSB Maresme.

By bringing together perspectives from across our community, we aim to provide families with a richer, more complete picture of daily life in our Early Years classrooms, highlighting the consistency of our educational approach.
