The first-ever Castelldefels International Kup (CIKUP) took place from 29 to 31 May 2026 at the BSB Sports Stadium, bringing together 30 U8 teams from across Europe for a memorable weekend of football, learning and international friendship.

As host and sponsor of the tournament, The British School of Barcelona was proud to welcome hundreds of young players, families and supporters to our sports facilities, reinforcing our commitment to grassroots football and the development of young athletes through sport.

Celebrating the Champions
The inaugural CIKUP featured an outstanding line-up of clubs from Spain, France and Portugal, including FC Barcelona, Real Madrid Academy, Paris Saint-Germain, Valencia CF, Real Betis, RCD Espanyol, Girona FC, Levante UD and Sporting de Braga, alongside many local Catalan clubs.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Real Madrid Academy were crowned champions of the Gold A Phase, while Premier Barcelona claimed the Gold B title. In the Silver Phases, the trophies were won by Sam-Cam Dos Hermanas and AE Prat.

More importantly, the tournament successfully transformed Castelldefels into a meeting point for international youth football, bringing together young athletes from different countries and cultures in a celebration of sport, friendship and learning.

A Valuable Experience for BSB Players
One of the highlights of the tournament was the participation of our own BSB Pre Benjamí team, who enjoyed the opportunity to compete against some of Europe’s most recognised youth academies.

In the group stage, our players faced a challenging draw, competing against strong opposition. The team lost 13–0 to FC Barcelona and 5–0 to Escola Varsovia, before finishing the phase on a positive note with an exciting 3–2 victory against Sporting Gavà FC.

The results saw BSB finish third in their group of four teams, qualifying for the Silver B Phase. There, our players continued to show determination and team spirit before being eliminated in the quarterfinals by Sant Cugat, who secured a 2–0 victory.

While the results presented significant challenges, the tournament provided an unforgettable sporting and personal experience for our young players, allowing them to develop confidence, resilience, and teamwork in an international environment.

A Special International Connection
Beyond the action on the pitch, the tournament also created unique educational opportunities for members of the BSB community.

A particularly special moment took place on Friday when our Year 12 BSB Nexus French students accompanied the Paris Saint-Germain delegation during lunchtime activities. The experience allowed students to practise their French in a real-life international setting while engaging with players and staff from one of Europe’s leading football clubs.

A Perfect Venue for Grassroots Football
The BSB Sports Field facilities are specially prepared to host large youth sporting events, with multiple pitches and spectator areas allowing families and supporters to enjoy matches throughout the weekend.

Adjacent to our BSB Castelldefels campus, the 9 000 m² rugby and football stadium is widely used by BSB students for PE lessons, after-school activities and the school’s enriched sports programme. The pitch is also marked out for both 7-a-side and 11-a-side football matches.

Located just minutes from the beach and close to Barcelona, Castelldefels has become an important destination for international youth tournaments thanks to its outstanding sports infrastructure, Mediterranean setting and strong connection to sport and community life.
